Yesterday we released a new version of Enterprise Remote Control.
This build fixes some long standing issues that were very tough to isolate:
Issue: Agents would take a long time to reconnect if the DNS server settings were changed, or the DNS server was down.
Resolution: A complete change was made to how the agent connects so it does not cache bad DNS settings for too long
Issue: In the case of an agent behind a 3g connection, or VPN connection…sometimes numerous disconnect/reconnect operations would create duplicate entries and possibly keep the agent offline indefinitely
Resolution: The agent was changed specifically to deal with these type of connections. We setup a test lab here with our own 3g and vpn connections that are constantly taken up and down. After a significant amount of testing, and help from beta testers the issue has been resolved
Thank you to Brian and Matthew for the time and effort they put in to help us pinpoint these issues.

Thanks for this update Steve. We had one satellite office that was having this issue. Their 3g connection was always going up and down…and sometimes the agents would get stuck offline.
Hi Steve,
This product looks interesting. Does it work with Remote Desktop?
What about file transfers. Any plans to add this feature?
Hi Mike,
Yes it works well with Remote Desktop, and you can easily ‘Jump’ into any active RDP session.

Hi Jelly Bean,
Yes we are working on this right now. Don’t have an ETA, but it is our top priority right now.
Thanks,
Steve
Hi Steve ,
The build in this update is the same as previous version : 5.5.1.1027 ???

Hello Leonard,
If you go to the license page…look at the build number. It should be January of this year. If not, you will want to update.
That build number is the build number of the agent settings application. I apologize for the confusion. We are in a transition with the build numbers, and now they are generated automatically with a date time stamp.
Would like to see IP addresses of all adapters reflected in the client details displayed in the Computers section of the server console please.
Also, perhaps a Restart Server button baked into the admin interface (both local app and web interface) to facilitate stopping and starting the server?
Thanks Steve. I gave you a shout out on Lifehacker this week. They have a Hive 5 for remote access tools in the wake of LogMeIn’s discontinuation of free remote control. Go promote yourself!
Hi Jaxun,
Thanks for the post. We will keep these ideas in mind for the next release. Been hearing more and more about logmein. I was wondering how long it would take them to do this. I knew it would happen some day. The cost is just too high to give that stuff away for free 🙂
I will check out the Hive 5
Steve
