In the battle for dominance over virtualization VMWare has made another shot towards Microsoft. Today they have announced that an open source client will be released for VMWare servers.
This is big news since it will now allow third parties to port their client to other platforms such as thin clients, phones, and special purpose devices. This in turn will make the VMWare platform more attractive than the Microsoft solution, since VMWare will be more accessible.
The biggest news that this brings is immediately you will be able to manage your VMWare servers from any Linux distribution. Hopefully the next step will be to port this to Mac OSX as well. This would further their dominance.
